Minnesota and Wisconsin / Visiting Friends

From Fargo, North Dakota, we crossed the Red River and headed east to Crosby, Minnesota to see new friends, Bill and Nancy.  We had met them at the RV park in Bullhead City.  They wanted us to come see them on our way home, so we quickly agreed!  They live on a beautiful small lake.  We were joined by Jan and Denny, also friends from Minnesota.  These two couples knew each other already and had included us in their weekly golf games and other 'field trip' fun over the winter months in Bullhead City.  So good to be together again!
This pair of loons live on their lake.
We did a lot of catching up and visited some local points of interest.
This area suffered a mining disaster in 1924.  Forty one miners lost their lives.
The mine filled with water and flooded fast.
The town has made a memorial park to remember these workers who were family and friends.
This is one of the lakes that was made after a surface mine was flooded.
We also went to the local museum and heard more about the area history.
Always fascinating to see how similar lives were lived, no matter where we go.
We thank Nancy and Bill for their gracious hospitality and Jan and Denny for making the trip to see us all.  It was a great fun, few days and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in Crosby, Minnesota!

Now we were on the road again for a couple of days.  Headed south toward Minneapolis, then east
across Wisconsin.  Stayed overnight in Wausau and headed out to Door County, on
Green Bay, Lake Michigan.

A new home for old friends, Brenda and Warren Pfohl, who have moved recently to Door County.

And joining us for the fun!... Connie and Jim Williams all the way from Iowa.
At Cave Point County Park.

Beautiful Door County - beautiful galleries
We stopped at different spots, just checking out the local "stuff". Besides the gallery, one was a great coffee shop that roasted their own coffee and made their own granola.  Also we had the chance to meet and visit with some Romanian young women who were in Door County working for the summer.  Brenda and Warren are involved in a program called 'Bridges' through their church, that helps the girls assimilate into US culture and have a family feel to their stay.  They are terrific!  We really enjoyed the time we spent talking and visiting with them!  Most are college students and will return to Romania come fall.
Plus we had time to just relax and enjoy each others company.

We drove down to where the Washington Island Ferry loads in Liberty Grove.

Gotta love the goats on the roof. An area tradition.
We spent our last day continuing to look around.

Good bye, Door County, and good bye for now, to the Pfohls.  Thank you so much, Brenda and Warren, for our lovely time with you.  As usual we go away with a better sense of God and his purposes.  Your open door and open hearts made this a very special space of time for us road weary travelers.

Onward to Michigan ...
